Pixel Game Jam 2024 entry
Note from the developers: We went into the Pixel Game Jam 2024 wanting to take a stab at creating a side-scrolling bullet-hell-style shooter. Fully assuming that our game setting would occur in space or the sky. We were thrown a curveball once the jam theme of "Aqua" was announced. After some thought, we decided, screw it, let's still make this game but have it set underwater!
When designing this game's look and aesthetic, we wanted to keep it bright but also goofy and lighthearted—our vision was Ecco the Dolphin meets Gradius. We also added a story element, which was when it all came together.
With the game jam starting and the clock ticking, we came up with the crazy idea of pretending we were back in the NES 8/16 bit era, making a licenced game for a fictitious movie. Thus, Trench Run 2: Aquatic Nightmare, The Video Game, was born! Our vertical slice represents the last "level" of the game, the end of the movie.
We had a blast working on this project, and we hope you enjoy our little game as much as we enjoyed creating it for you to play.

Oh wow took me a few play throughs to realize why the jellyfish were more fun to blow up than the mines and it is because of the sound effect. Didn't play Gradius much, but loved playing Darius, which this reminded me of because of the aquatic theme!
Appreciate the feedback!
Love the laser shark. Super cute!
Thanks for the feedback!
